Exp. 1 - Stairs

#1 Comfortable and Slippery
Tools Used: Extrusions, Follow Me, Sphere, Make Components, Subtract Solids & Soften & Smooth Edges

I designed this for the below ground floor (Revival Cycles) which will lead into the in-between floor transitioning into the look of the Steinway showroom and workshop.

The timber makes it warmer which I included for the "comfort" factor. The width of the handrail was created based on the "comfort" idea as well providing ease and security when walking up the stairs. I like the contrast of white and timber and the thickness of the handrail. I designed it for the stairway to the top floor. The timber aesthetic also connects to the interior frame of the piano.

#3 Comfortable and Slippery

I looked up the BCA requirements for the treads, rises, handrails and landing measurements of buildings. It provided 190mm rise x 300mm tread, max 570mm height for 750mm landing, and 865mm handrail height. I based this drawing off those measurements to incorporate the "comfort" factor of the space by not making people feel uncomfortable as they walk through the space. However, I don't like the look of the measurements. It looks like there is no "leakage". A bit to straight for me and doesn't push any boundaries. I do like the thinness of the handrail contrasted to the thickness of the stairs though.
