Exp 2 Final Submission - Monument

Please download all of the files for Experiment 2 via Dropbox link here

Lumion Model

The dramatic entrance - Eero Saarinen. An immediate response of anticipation to the cold concrete walkway. Saarinen's spaces were exceptionally awe inspiring and this lends itself to his intentions of the user of the space.

Herzog & De Meuron paying tribute to Eero Saarinen through a bend in the architectural form representing a ‘bow’. The use of scale to represent this idea of inspiration contining through time.

The middle space is contrasted to the large open space above and below. This is for students to gather and discuss ideas. The glass is used so that the monument can be viewed and analysed from multiple angles

See short video below.

EXP 2 Exploring Ideas & Sketches

Connecting curved and linear prisms. I will be using the Artisan tools on the Herzog & de Meuron 'Commentary through architectural form' part of the monument. I will keep the rectangular prisms for the Eero Saarinen 'Response through architectural scale' part of the monument.

Stair Case
I would like to use a spiral staircase in replace of one of the front rectangular prisms.

EXP 2 Amalgamated Sketch Up Drafts

Here are some rough drafts in Sketch Up trying to work out the best amalgamations. However, this is obviously not working. There are too many components and it doesn't look like a monument structure at all. Back to sketches and re-assess my amalgamations.

Commentary through architectural form
& Stacks of geometry to affect the play of light
Commentary through architectural form
& Framing the external environment
