'The Datum' - Sketches & Ideas
Looking at form for the stairs. Taking inspiration from Zaha Hadid's Showcase Stairs.
Obviously my design has evolved a lot from the initial section sketch (see below). I really struggled to think three dimensionally about this space. I kept the same curved form and lines but used it differently - either at the height of the ceiling or the connection between the spaces.
I am not a massive fan of colour. I prefer monochrome. The space is supposed to be a busy space with factory equipment, parts from Steinway & Sons and Revival Cycles I assumed that it would look too busy to integrate too much colour and textures. I treated the textures as artworks to tie the space together. The lines in the 'Alive' texture and it's meaning works well with the extended wall space. Along with the initial words 'Comfortable' (Steinway & Sons - Top) and 'Slippery' (Revival Cycles - Bottom) my texture 'Alive' worked best with the space and became a concept throughout the design. I concentrated on the landscape and tried to bring the natural elements into the space.
